Kama Sutra
Was the original Kama Sutra illustrated or all description?
My gf and I have this disagreement. I claim that the orginal Kama Sutra was only text. She says it was illustration and text. Anyone know who is right……please reference authority if you can….don’t just tell me what you think.
The Original Kama Sutra was written in sandskrit and to the best of my knowledge was just text as you believe. This is a tough one to answer and requires some research. A good name to look up is John Keay who is historian who has put alot of time into studying the Kama Sutra. To my knowledge the earliest transciption of the Kama Sutra was in the 2nd Century AD. The pictures came later and recieved a bad rap in West because it was thought to be pornographic when it was translated by Sir Richard Francis Burton in 1883.
Sadly alot of people still think the book is all about sex but it is actually a practical guide to living a spiritual life through achieving pleasure. Much like other early religious texts it likely would not have been illustrated.
